William Ruckelshaus endorses Obama

Thu Apr 17, 2008 at 01:35:16 PM PDT

Republican William Ruckelshaus has endorsed Obama, according to CNN

As many of you would know, Ruckelshaus was fired in the Saturday Night Massacre during the Watergate investigation for refusing Nixon's order to replace the independent counsel.

Just think it's another kudo for Obama...it's great when high-profile Republicans "get" the urgency of the current situation.

"Senator Obama’s ability to attract not only Democrats, but also Republicans and Independents, makes him uniquely qualified to build the broad coalitions needed to address our nation’s challenges," said Ruckelshaus in a statement.

Clinton supporter says Obama next Prez (not April fools)

Congressman/superdelegate Cleaver says he expects Obama to be the next President.  Compares support for Hillary to rooting for his favourite team, even knowing it's not going to win.

BREAKING:  Bloomberg to introduce Obama today

Thu Mar 27, 2008 at 03:36:23 AM PDT

Don't see this on recent diarly list so posting.

His office took the "unusual" step (as reported) of announcing this ahead of time.  Since he has so far been uncommitted, wouldn't that lead one to guess he plans to endorse Obama?

This is a poor, and short, excuse for a diary but it seems like really big news that people would be interested in.

Still can't figure out how to imbed links (someone feel free to enlighten me) but the link is at thepage.time.com.

Appreciating your efforts

Not sure if this is a proper subject for a diary -- my first one.  I've been lurking for a few months and just recently joined.

I'm a Canadian who has always followed U.S. politics.  My main activist work was in human rights, and what happens in the U.S. is always very important to that work (I've been less involved the past several years due to having 3 kids!).

As you know, what happens to people in other countries has a lot of impact from what happens in the U.S.   Yet (and understandably so) we are powerless to affect who leads the U.S. by voting or working on campaigns or even donating.  I realize there are things we can do within our own countries but the U.S. is definitely the elephant in the living room.
